About Greater Richmond Chorus
We are a competitive chorus who also enjoys performing in the Greater Richmond Area.
Greater Richmond Chorus is a group of more than 80 women of all ages who love to sing 4-part harmony, dance, and wear sparkling costumes. We are dedicated to musical excellence, providing high quality musical entertainment for our community and forming close friendships with one another.
Our Motto: EVERYONE ALL THE TIME
The Greater Richmond Chorus (GRC) of Sweet Adelines International (SAI) is a nonprofit organization of women singers dedicated to advancing the musical art form of barbershop a cappella four-part harmony through vocal and showmanship education, performance, competition and community service.
We love to entertain by putting on our own musical events each year for the community, our friends, and families. We also send greetings to special folks by Singing Valentines. We sing at annual shows, a number of community events, and at an annual competition. We are available to sing at your next function or event. If you're looking for a unique musical experience to liven up your event, please check out our Sing For You section.
In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. A couple of times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.
We are a competitive chorus, working hard together to improve our score each year. Raising our singing level is part of the fun we have as we strive for musical excellence.
We are proud of our accomplishments:
6-time Regional Champions and 6-Time International Competitors.
In the spring of every year, weparticipate in the Region 14chorus competition in North Carolina. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall in a city selected each year. In 2015, International Competition will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Click here to learn more.
Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. Greater Richmond Choruscurrently is home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them! Click here to see our quartet section to learn more about them.
Greater Richmond Chorusis a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization of approximately 23,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
